Pharmacist Blog – January 2014
With the new year upon us, it’s a great time to consider concentrating on healthy lifestyle choices. Food, exercise and sleep are three main areas to focus on. Although in the winter it’s preferrable to stay warm and cozy indoors, try bundling up for the cold and go walking, skating or skiing. If you would rather stay indoors, how about taking the stairs more often? Or if low key sitting and stretching exercises (like yoga) is for you, go for it!
Good nutrition is about balance, because nobody wants to give up ALL the good stuff! Choose fruits, vegetables and whole grains more often, but allow for treats and sweets occasionally. Water is the best beverage choice – coffee, tea, juices and pop less often.
Lastly, when it comes to sleep, power off the TV, computer, and cell phone earlier to allowed 20-30 minutes of low stimulation to be calm and relaxed before bed.
Any day is a good day to make positive changes for your health, not just because of the new year!
